Rising Lagos State based artiste, rapper, songwriter and entrepreneur, Joseph Oghenovo Samuel, aka X3ME, is set to drop his new single ‘No Memories’ today via his own label, Swagill Innovations Limited.
The new single marks the Urhobo proud son’s second released single for 2024. ‘No Memories’, finds the singer conjuring an enigmatic, midnight sound. The track immerses the listeners into the mind of X3ME, a rich sonic journey balancing upper-echelon R&B and Afrobeats alongside X3ME hedonistic commentary elevated through love, heartbreak and the wonders of existence.
In a press statement preceding the release of the song, he said: “This new music which I am dropping on June 23, 2024 titled ‘No Memories’. I wrote this song after going through a bad breakup with my girl at the time so it’s personal, deep, real, very much emotional and I hope most of you guys can relate. Brace yourselves cause I’ll be taking you through different waves of emotions with this release trust me.”
In the May 2024 release ‘In My Head’, X3ME’s smoky vocals shine front and center from the offset on as he glides over hip-hop synths and thumping drum baseline. It details the constant struggle with mental health, addiction, and many other deep topics and challenges as a young fellow trying to get ahead in life.
X3ME has been surrounded by music right from an early age. Born in Lagos State, his childhood which was spent in the Ojo area of the state, provided the needed sonic foundation. Artistes like Eminem, 2pac, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, Drake, 2face, Davido, Omah Lay, and Burna Boy have all played a part in his music journey. Now, he is a man of himself as he sets out to follow his own path.
The year 2023 had the graduate of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) taking a long hiatus from music. Before this pause, he already released some projects like ‘Survivor EP,’ “’Get Familiar Mixtape Vol 1′ ‘Get Familiar Mixtape Vol 2,’ in the preceding years.
After darkness comes the bright light, with the release of ‘No Memories,’ X3ME seems to be getting his groove back, perhaps, the elusive debut album might finally get released before the end of the year.
