Woman Sets GWR For 31-Hour Christmas Singing Marathon

Ewaoluwa Olatunji, popularly known as Ewa Cole or the “Queen of Afro-Solk,” has clinched the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous singing of Christmas songs. The 29-year-old from Lagos, Nigeria, accomplished this feat by singing for an impressive 31 hours straight on December 27-28, securing her place as the first holder of this unique record.


Ewa shared her motivation for taking on this extraordinary challenge, stating, “I took on this challenge to promote peace and unity and inspire confidence in young people. Since childhood, I’ve been preparing for this moment, often performing at my school’s Christmas carols.”

Throughout the singing marathon, Ewa performed classic Christmas songs like “Deck the Halls,” “Frosty the Snowman,” and “Silent Night,” ensuring no song was repeated within a one-hour period. Despite facing fatigue, throat pain, and stomach problems, Ewa persevered through the challenging 31 hours.

arEwa had brief five-minute rest breaks after every continuous hour of singing, during which she could eat, sleep, or use the bathroom. The toughest period for her was between the eighth and 12th hours, battling symptoms of mild food poisoning and various physical discomforts. in her words she said;

“The most challenging period for me was between the eighth and 12th hours, I had consumed a drink that caused mild food poisoning symptoms, forcing me to hold in flatulence to avoid public embarrassment. I was simultaneously experiencing profuse sweating, stomach, head, and throat aches, along with an urgent need to use the restroom.”

Ewa shared, “I never once stopped singing, even when I completely lost my voice. I will say that God was absolutely by my side all through.” further more she said;  “Since childhood, I’ve been preparing for this moment. I was often put on stage to lead and perform at my school’s Christmas carols,”

Apart from her musical accomplishments, Ewa works as a software engineer and runs her own clothing brand. She is thrilled to have earned the Guinness World Records title and is still buzzing with excitement.

Known for creating her music genre called “Afro-Solk,” a fusion of Afro-pop, soul, and folk music, Ewa looks forward to exploring the limitless possibilities ahead in her singing career.
