Why Seun Kuti Worships Juju Despite Family Being Anglican

Grammy-nominated Afrobeat artist, Seun Kuti, revealed in a recent podcast interview that despite his family’s deep roots in Anglican Christianity, he prefers practicing juju.

Seun Kuti believes that Africans need to go back to their roots and connect to the past, which sums up his main reason of being a Juju worshipper.

Kuti’s great grandfather and grandfather played significant roles in establishing the Anglican Church in Nigeria during colonial times. However, the singer expressed his divergence from Christianity, declaring himself a devoted juju worshipper.

“I don’t go to church. Na juju me I dey do,” Kuti declared, encouraging fellow Africans to reconnect with traditional religions.

In addition to his spiritual revelations, Kuti criticized the commitment of Super Eagles players, describing them as the “least disciplined athletes.” He argued that Nigerian footballers lack patriotism, prioritizing their foreign clubs over national duty.

Despite the players attributing underperformance to financial motivations, Kuti dismissed such excuses, emphasizing the need for dedication to represent Africa at international competitions.
