A man in Delta State has narrated how he conspired with his nephew to fake the kidnap of the latter, extorting the sum of N5 million from the ‘victim’s’ father as ransom payment.

The two boys, in a video posted on Thursday by the Delta State police spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, said one of them who is 20 years old agreed to be chained and beaten by the fake kidnappers.

They, thereafter, sent the video showing the young man being battered to his father, demanding a ransom of N50 million in bitcoin.

“The father sent N5,000,000 in Bitcoin before they were released. Parents should train their children because if they don’t when they grow up, they might become a mess to you and society,” Edafe wrote on X.

“The boys also confessed that they had already spent N2m from the Bitcoin wallet which now remains N3m. This is a special case of kidnap which is called self-kidnap.”

The two suspects in the video also narrated how they planned the fake kidnap of one of them who is a nephew to the other.

“My name is Jerry Lawrence and I am here for the case of self-kidnap. The person standing by my side is my nephew. I used to live with his parents and his father is my uncle,” the older of the suspects said.

“I summoned him from Abraka where he schools to come visit me in Warri that I have a PlayStation 4 for him.

“When he came, I confided in him that I was in financial trouble and that we could actually get money from his father who is my uncle by faking a kidnap to which he agreed.

“We chained him in my apartment, blindfolded him and then sent a video to his parents demanding the sum of N50m but he eventually paid N5m.

“I have so far spent N2m from the money but I still have N3m in my wallet. I decided to confess when the heat was becoming too much due to the messages we were getting on the family WhatsApp platform that the Police would be involved.”
