TotalEnergies creative poster competition

TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited has sponsored a VIA Creative competition in the country to raise awareness on the safety of pedestrians and give students the chance to express their ideas.

School children were trained as road safety awareness ambassadors and organised into small groups to design creative posters on road safety awareness under the theme: ‘Walking to school safely’.

Speaking at the event, the firm’s Deputy Managing Director, Deepwater Assets, Mr. Victor Bandele, said the competition challenged students to develop creative posters to create messages on safety for pedestrians.

Bandele noted that participating groups from 100 schools in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, submitted creative posters and participated in a regional competition.
T
en schools emerged finalists from the regions and participated in the final. The schools comprise six from Lagos, two from Rivers and two from Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

At the final, Muslim Association of Nigeria Secondary School, Lagos, won the competition with a winning poster that featured the slogan ‘Stop, look, observe and cross.’ The school went home with N1m.

Nobel Vine College, Lagos and Eva Adelaja Junior Girls Secondary School, Lagos, took second and third place. The duo received N500, 000 and N250, 000 respectively.

Bandele announced that the 2023 edition would commence in the second quarter of the year where the national winners will participate in a global competition. He said the winners stand a chance to emerge as global winners and champions of pedestrian road safety. The VIA Creative competition is a yearly road safety awareness campaign.

The VIA Global Programme for Road Safety Education, Safe Mobility, and Citizenship was created and implemented by TotalEnergies, in partnership with the Michelin Foundation.

The 2022 VIA Creative Poster competition was launched in October 2022 and implemented by Slum2School. 591 teachers from 100 schools were trained and mobilised to champion the competition, while about 15,415 students were reached with the campaign on pedestrian road safety guidelines.
