President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and military personnel will henceforth pay the required toll fees at all tollgates whenever they drive through and from all the airports in the country.

The development came following the resumed Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting he presided over at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday, where the cabinet approved that there should be no more exemption granted to users of the airports from paying tollgate fees.

The Council approval came following a memorandum presented by the minister of aviation, Festus Keyamo, who argued that the government was losing over 82% of the revenue it should have earned from the e-tags that provide access to the tollgates.

He explained that the memoranda had initially prescribed an exemption for only the president and the vice president before Tinubu overruled the submission and directed that he and his Vice President should be included among those obliged to pay.

Keyamo, who disclosed this at the post-FEC media briefing, regretted that Very Important Persons (VIPs) including Federal lawmakers and members of state assemblies as well as personnel of the military, who should pay are those that have defaulted in the payment.

He noted that only poor people had been charged for using the tollgates, saying this must now stop.
