Tinubu, Oborevwori congratulate Okonjo-Iweala at 70

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Director General (DG) of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on her 70th birthday.


Tinubu, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, yesterday, also rejoiced with the remarkable leader and her family on the momentous occasion.

The President further extolled the former Minister of Finance for her service to the nation and efforts towards building resilient institutions.

He commended the DG of the WTO for being a worthy ambassador of Nigeria, exemplifying the grit, diligence and brilliance that Nigerians are known for.

The President prayed for many more years in good health for Okonjo-Iweala and her family.


Also, the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, yesterday congratulated the WTO DG as she turns 70 years of age on June 13.

Oborevwori in a statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ekpen Ahon, praised Okonjo-Iweala, a distinguished Deltan from Ogwashi-Uku and the first African woman to lead the global trade organisation, as a shining example of professionalism, integrity and a great role model for women.

He commended the Okonjo-Iweala for her sublime and remarkable achievements in support of Nigeria and the international financial sector.

The governor remarked that Okonjo-Iweala made laudable contributions to the development of Nigeria’s economy, as a two-time finance minister.

Oborevwori extolled Okonjo-Iweala for her intellect and skill, as a leading economist and specialist in international development, whose faultless work over the years had won her accolades from all over the world.
