Tinubu appoints Ngelale special envoy on climate action

President Bola Tinubu has appointed his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, as the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action. A statement from the office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation, (SGF), in Abuja yesterday, said Ngelale would serve in the role as part of a larger Presidential Committee, to be chaired by the President.

Ngelale will retain his role as the official spokesperson for the President and Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity. while serving on the committee.

The Presidential Committee on Climate Action and Green Economic Solutions, established by the President, will coordinate and oversee all policies and programmes on climate action and green economic development.

The statement reads in part: “This is to remove the constraints to coordination, foster a whole-of-government approach to climate-action programmes, provide an efficient governance architecture, and ensure that all relevant institutions in the sector are plugged into the President’s vision and are collectively implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda on climate action.”

The committee has the Minister for Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, as Vice-Chairman. He has the responsibility of identifying, developing, and imp
lementing innovative non-oil & non-gas climate action initiatives.

The President also approved the appointment of Infrastructure Corporation of Nigeria (InfraCorp), headed by Dr Lazarus Angbazo, as the Lead Arranger and Developer of Evergreen City, Nigeria’s green industrial zone. 

 
Tinubu explained that the development was in line with his commitment to ensuring industrial development that would meet the demands of the present and the future.
 
InfraCorp, according to Tinubu, will be involved, among other terms of reference, in the selection of partners/consultants to undertake critical development activities, including project design, environmental impact assessments, feasibility studies, financial modelling, and market engagement.
 
Angbazo, the CEO of InfraCorp, holds a first-class Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics; a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of Iowa, and a Doctorate degree in Corporate Finance from the New York University.
