Three die in Lagos auto crash

The accident scene

Three persons were reportedly killed in an auto crash when the driver of a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) rammed into a moving 40-feet container truck in Lagos.

The Guardian learnt that the incident occurred on Sunday at Mandilas Bus Stop near Iyana Isolo, along Apapa-Oshodi Expressway at about 11:00 p.m.

Reacting to the incident yesterday, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said upon arrival at the scene at 11:38p.m., the Mercury Benz SUV with an unknown number plate was found to have rammed into the truck due to over speeding.

According to him, the impact of the collision resulted in a fire outbreak from the car engine.

“Unfortunately, three adult males inside the car were all severely burnt and died due to the impact of the collision. The affected containerised truck and car were recovered with the aid of the agency’s heavy duty equipment and towed to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) yard, Oshodi.

“Extrication of the three burn victims trapped inside the car was carried out and the remains were subsequently handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) for onward transfer to the morgue.”
