State govt gives free eye-screening, surgeries to residents

Following the recent Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) declaration of Miss Nkechinyere Umeh, from Anambra State, as the highest scorer, with cumulative mark of 360, in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo, has awarded her a scholarship for further studies in the university.


While congratulating Umeh for the remarkable performance and doing the state proud, Soludo declared that the award would help her study any course of her choice at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State.

In a statement, yesterday, in Awka, the governor, through his Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, said the scholarship is in celebration of Umeh’s feat.

The statement added: “Soludo has announced a well-deserved scholarship for Nkechinyere Umeh to study any course of her choice at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.”

“The scholarship will not only serve as a token of the state government’s appreciation for her hard work, but also provide her the opportunity to pursue her dreams and contribute to development of the state in future.”

In another development, the state government has organised free eyes-screening and cataract surgeries to launch the state’s first Eye Care Centre located at Nise town.

The Head, Anambra State Eye Care Centre, Dr. Ikenna Mbakigwe, told journalists, yesterday, that over 100 residents benefitted from the eyes-screening and cataract surgeries in the state.
