Security operatives uncover hideout of Yoruba nation agitators in Ibadan

• We’re not ready to opt out of Nigeria for now, say Yoruba groups
• Ignore those agitating for Yoruba nation, Ooni tells Nigerians

Security operatives in Oyo State have uncovered a hideout of some people suspected to be Yoruba nation agitators. The hideout was found in Oluyole Local Council of the state.

The Guardian learnt that the hideout was discovered at Fatusi and Shagari, Olode sector of the council. Some of the items found in the hideout include army uniforms and dangerous weapons.

HOWEVER, the alliance of the Associations for Yoruba Self-determination Groups, yesterday, joined other prominent and relevant Yoruba leaders and groups to condemn the treasonable act of the group that invaded Oyo State Government Secretariat.

Secretary-General of the Alliance of Associations for Yoruba Agenda, Dr Steve Abioye, said the Yoruba were not ready to opt out of the country for now.
Abioye said that the sponsors of the invasion, which he described as an act of hooliganism and terrorism, lacked the support of the majority of Yoruba sons and daughters, saying that their act was embarrassing to the Yoruba race.He added that it was an ill-conceived, senseless, thoughtless and needless declaration of the Yoruba republic.

SIMILARLY, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has urged Nigerians to ignore the Yoruba nation agitators that invaded the Oyo State Government Secretariat, describing them as attention-seekers. He also insisted that the agitators do not represent the interest of the Yoruba race.

The monarch, who spoke when he received members of the Yoruba Council Worldwide (YCW) that paid him a courtesy visit at his lodge in Eko Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos, to inform him of the sixth yearly Omoluwabi festival to be held on April 27- 28, 2024 in Ile Ife and the grand finale holding in Lagos at the LTV 8 Blue Roof on May 1, 2024, commended President of YCW, Oladotun Hassan, for promoting Yoruba culture and extolling the good virtues Yoruba are known for.

Oba Ogunwusi, however, advised Nigerians not to give the Yoruba nation agitators any attention. Hassan, who spoke on the importance of organising the Omoluwabi Day, said the essence was to rekindle the fast dying of Yoruba morals and values and as well inculcate it into the youths.
