Ruger Calls Out Former Record Label Jonzing Records

Ruger, a rising Nigerian music artist, recently took to social media to share his candid thoughts about his former record label, Jonzing Records.

In a series of posts on his X account, the artist expressed his reasons for parting ways with the label, citing issues related to lack of support, transparency, and a desire for greater artistic freedom.

“As much as I’m very appreciative of the fact that Jonzing world introduced me to the world, I just couldn’t continue with them,” Ruger wrote in his post. “They got too comfortable with the money they were making from me and couldn’t push me further as I wanted to be pushed.”

The artist revealed that despite his intention to renegotiate his contract with Jonzing Records, he ultimately decided to part ways due to a perceived lack of action and transparency from the label. “Was supposed to renegotiate the contract but I couldn’t imagine 5 years more without action,” he wrote. “They use my money to fund new artists, leaving me in the dark, not being transparent.”

Ruger’s revelations shed light on the challenges faced by artists within the music industry, particularly concerning issues of financial transparency and artistic control when dealing with record labels.

The artist expressed frustration at what he perceived as a lack of support and progress within his former label, despite his efforts to address these concerns.

“I complained, I got angry, some people tell me say no be so dem Dey do things,” Ruger shared. “I still go back HQ go collect fake hugs and handshakes. Nothing still change. I wan mad.”

Despite the challenges he faced, Ruger explained that he is still proud of his accomplishments he has made as an artist.

“Many things to talk but dem fit go wait for me for ikoyi link bridge stab me wotowoto,” he joked. “Anyways, I’m proud of myself. Performing at very big festivals this year, touring Europe again, touring Canada again, IDC I’m gonna be cocky coz this is shit they couldn’t do for me. BS!!!”

Jonzing Records, founded by recording artist D’Prince in 2019, has a number of new talents signed to them including the latest addition, Glorious Boy introduced by D’Prince himself and Gdzilla whose signature is a mask, reminiscent of Ruger’s iconic eyepatch.
