The rising star of the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL), Kenneth Igboke, has expressed his delight after receiving his maiden call-up to the Super Eagles, Nigeria’s national team, from manager Finidi George.

The Guardian reports that Igboke, the left-back for NPFL leaders Rangers International, has been one of the standout performers in the league this season. The 23-year-old has scored three goals, including a thunderous strike, and provided one assist in his 20 appearances for the Flying Antelopes.

His impressive displays have now been recognised by new Super Eagles manager Finidi George, who has included Igboke in his squad for the upcoming international matches. This latest move from the new Eagles boss comes after the withdrawal of star forward Victor Osimhen due to an injury.

“I am beyond thrilled and honoured to announce that I have been called up to the national team,” Igboke shared his excitement on his Instagram account. “This is a dream come true and a testament to the hard work and dedication I’ve poured into this sport.”

The youngster expressed gratitude to his family, coaches, and teammates, particularly his ‘father’, Amobi Ezeku, the Rangers CEO, who has constantly supported him throughout his journey. Igboke also promised to give his all and make the nation proud with his performances in the national team.

“I promise to give my all and make you proud. Let’s do this,” he added.

Igboke’s call-up is the second instance of a player from the NPFL receiving his first invitation to the Super Eagles under Finidi George’s tenure, following the initial inclusion of Remo Star’s right-back, Sodiq Ismail, in the 23-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

This development is a testament to the growing talent within the Nigerian league, and it will be exciting to see how Igboke fares on the international stage as he aims to cement his place in the Super Eagles setup.

Meanwhile, Rangers head coach Fidelis Ilechukwu has expressed his delight over Igboke’s selection for the Super Eagles squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

“This is a reward for hard work,” Ilechukwu stated on X (formerly Twitter), adding his confidence in Igboke’s abilities. “I have no doubt in your ability from day 1.

“I believe you will make me and the Rangers family proud in the National team. I wish you all the best sabi player.”

Rangers will be without the services of Igboke when they take on Sporting Lagos on Sunday in Lagos. The game will be shown live on StarTimes. Kickoff is 4PM West African Time.
