Police rescue 72 kidnap victims, recover 562 animals in Katsina

Katsina State Police Command has said it rescued 72 kidnap victims and recovered 562 domestic animals from suspected terrorists in February 2024.

Spokesperson for the command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, said the command also arrested 12 murder suspects, 13 armed robbers, and 19 suspected sexual assailants within the same period.


According to him, three suspected kidnappers were arrested in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, in a collaborative effort between the police in the state and FCT.

He said: “Within the period under review, 59 cases of major crimes, such as armed robbery, kidnapping, culpable homicides, cattle rustling, among others, were reported; 49 cases were charged to court and 188 suspects were arrested.

“Thirteen suspected armed robbers, 12 murder suspects, 19 suspected sexual assailants, and 42 suspects were arrested for various offences, such as criminal force, intimidation, inciting disturbance, and belonging to a gang of brigands. Also, the command rescued 72 kidnap victims, and recovered 562 rustled animals”


Aliyu added: “A collaborative effort between the Katsina State Police Command and the FCT Police Command led to the arrest of three suspected notorious kidnappers, namely Hassan Ibrahim, 25; Ibrahim Ishaq, 33; and Shafiu Shuaibu, 30, all of Takabawa village, Kurfi Local Council of Katsina State.

“The suspects met their waterloo when they were arrested on February 22, by operatives of the Galadimawa Divisional Headquarters of the FCT Command based on credible intelligence.

“In the course of investigation, the suspects confessed to being part of the syndicate terrorising Safana and Kurfi Local Councils in Katsina State.

“One of the suspects, Hassan Ibrahim, confessed to the crime and further confessed to having conspired with the following persons: Gajere, Bishir Tsager, Tsalha Haladu, Dikko Ummaru, and Haladu, all at large, to carry out attacks on some villages in the state, such as Ummadau, Tsaskiya, and Zakka, where they rustled animals.

“Efforts are being made to arrest the fleeing suspects as investigation proceeds.”
