Police probe multiple accidents in Abuja

Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have launched an investigation into a fatal auto crash in the Dutse area of the city.
The Command, through its spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, expressed sadness over the reported multiple crashes that occurred at the weekend, near Dutse Baupma.


Adeh said officers from the command moved to the scene after receiving a distress call from a concerned citizen and rushed the victims to Kubwa General Hospital for urgent medical attention.

“Regrettably, we confirm the loss of three persons, namely Hosea Stephen, 34, from EFAB Metropolis Estate, Karasana, Abuja; Muhammad Lawal, 32, from Jere, Kaduna State and Bashir Shaibu, 25, also from Jere, Kaduna State.”

She said for others, who sustained injuries in the accident are currently receiving medical treatment at Kubwa General Hospital. They are Maria Ibeku, 21, Ebuka Eleodimuo, 38, Joy Adebayo, 36 and Bashir Haruna, 25.

“Furthermore, four vehicles involved in the accident have been safely secured at the police station. They include a black Toyota Camry with registration number YAB 355 AH, a Toyota Pilot and truck with unknown registration numbers and tricycle with registration number KUJ 571 VE.

“It is worth noting that a Toyota Jeep with registration number BWR 468 CD, believed to belong to an officer of the Department of State Security (DSS) was taken from the scene by DSS Personnel from Ushafa, Abuja. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as David C.Y Audu, a male resident of Ushafa.”

While urging members of the public to remain calm as investigation continues on the incident, Adeh said effort is on to ascertain the causes and circumstances surrounding the accident.

“The Commissioner of Police extends his deepest sympathies to the families, relatives, and loved ones of the deceased. We will continue to provide timely updates on any further developments related to this case,” she added.
