Police probe death of two Abia indigenes

The Police in Abia State have commenced Investigation into the death of two people in Umuahia, and Aba, the business hub of the state.

Spokesperson for the command, ASP Maureen Chinaka in two separate statements, yesterday, explained that the incident in Aba involved one Mr. Emmanuel Okocha, a businessman and native of Abiriba in the state.


According to her, Okocha’s death resulted from his shooting along Aba-Owerri road by a Police Corporal named Obagi Njok attached to Abayi Police Division under Abia State Police Command.

Chinaka stated that the killer Police-officer has been apprehended with the necessary disciplinary procedures initiated towards effecting appropriate disciplinary actions and sanctions soonest, including subjecting him to full course of appropriate administrative and legal consequences.

On the Umuahia incident, she said: “On April 19, the Central Police Station (CPS) Umuahia received a report from Hope Oluoha, a 52-year-old male of Agbo Emede Ibeku Umuahia that on April 18, one Daniel Otuechere, ‘m’, 27, of same address took his son, Hope Chinedu Prosper, 23, to an unknown destination and returned home with his lifeless body.

“The body was taken to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.”

According to her, detectives from the Command visited the scene and the body has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy, while the suspects connected to the crime have been arrested, adding that on both incidents, discreet Investigations were ongoing.

The spokesperson further stated that representatives of the victim’s bereaved family and stakeholders will be carried along as the proceedings progress.

She asserted that the Command remains steadfast in upholding professionalism, rule of law and unequivocally condemned any act of misconduct, unprofessionalism, and indiscipline among their officers.
