The police in Rivers State have arrested one Michael Chidozie for allegedly beating his wife to death.

The Guardian learnt that Chidozie, in the wee hours of Tuesday, March 5, allegedly beat his 32-year-old wife, Ufuoma, to death at the Agip axis of Mile 4, Obio/Akpor Local Council of Rivers State.

The deceased, a mother of three boys (aged 10, seven and five) who hailed from Delta State, died from injuries she sustained as a result of the beating.

Sources said Chidozie, a Sunday School teacher at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), fled after inviting his brother-in-law to the house, saying there was an emergency.

The source said when the brother-in-law came to the house, he found the lifeless body of his sister but did not meet the husband.

The suspect was, however, arrested on Wednesday by police officers attached to the Agip Police Division, Mile 4, Port Harcourt.

Confirming the development yesterday, spokesperson for Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said Chidozie has been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Port Harcourt, for investigation.

Also, a police source said an autopsy would be carried out on the corpse of the late Ufuoma to ascertain the veracity of the allegation against the suspect.

Meanwhile, the remains of Ufuoma have been deposited in a mortuary.
