Police burst ‘One-Chance’ robbery syndicate, others in Abuja


Operatives of the FCT Police Command have burst a notorious armed robbery syndicate operating in Abuja as “one chance robber” alongside other criminal elements.


The suspects were paraded at the Command Headquarters, Abuja by the Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth Igweh.

The ten suspects were nabbed for various crimes ranging from armed robbery to car theft, and others.

The FCT police boss hinted that, on April 7, 2024, at around 10:30 pm, police operatives from Maitama Division, while on routine Patrol along Nicon Junction, heard a loud cry and swiftly mobilised to the location.


According to him, a victim of a one-chance armed robbery incident was pushed out of a vehicle, and was found dispossessed of all her belongings.”

In response to this, Igweh stated that the police operatives gave the hoodlums a hot chase forcing them to abandon their vehicle and take to their heels.

“Information recovered from the vehicle led police operatives to the arrest of four suspects, namely Hamza Ibrahim, Mubarak Abubakar, Abubakar Suleiman and Mohammed Lawal,” he said.


The suspects, according to the CP have confessed to the commission of the crime and will be charged to court soon.

Relatedly, the CP also disclosed that, On May 1, 2024, at around 3:00pm, acting on credible intelligence, police operatives of Apo Legislative Quarters, trailed and arrested two notorious car thieves.

He gave their names as Anthony Chibuzor and his friend Jonas Chikwe both males of Lagos state who have been on the wanted list of the command and part of a notorious car theft syndicate terrorising FCT and its environs.


Three vehicles were recovered from the suspects which they could not satisfactory account for. They include, a Toyota Camry with Reg No. Lagos 23, An Audi A4 with Reg No. KRD 349 JD and an Honda Accord Sports with Reg No. BDG 42 JC, some of which the Chassis No. had been altered serially by the suspects.

On May 12, 2024, at around 11:26pm, the CP said, following the report of one Mohammed Musa of Durumi that on the same date, one Kabiru Umar of the same address, broke into his Point of Sale (POS) shop and stole the sum of N300, 000.


He added, “Police operatives of Durumi Division swiftly mobilised to the scene and arrested the suspect. Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and the sum of N170, 000 was recovered from him. Suspect will be arraigned in court soon.”

While thanking the residents of the FCT for their support in information sharing, the CP said, “I want to conclude by reassuring you that the FCT Police Command, under my leadership, will do all within our power to prevent crime and criminality in all of its forms and ensure the safety of all without fear or favour.

“This can be effectively achieved only with your (residents of FCT) utmost cooperation.”
