Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, yesterday, appealed to the party members and supporters in Edo State to keep faith alive irrespective of the party’s present challenges in the state.
Oshiomhole made the appeal at the party’s enlarged leaders meeting in Edo North Senatorial District of the state, maintaining that irrespective of the outcome of the last governorship election, Edo North APC had enough reasons to sustain its pride and self-confidence for winning the senatorial zone.
He further appealed to the party leaders to always convene all-inclusive meetings to carry everybody along at the wards, local and state levels, adding that politics is a game of numbers.
The former governor said he was fulfilled to have served as governor of Edo State and National Chairman of APC even if he had spent two days as national chairman of the party, saying: “All that matters is that I occupied the office and it is a history that cannot be changed and for which I am grateful to God.”
While commending members of the State House of Assembly under the APC, who have not been inaugurated for keeping their faith, he said the people were elected and committed no offence yet, they were being denied their right to be sworn-in as representatives of their constituents.
He, however, said he believed that God would deliver justice to them in His own way and at His own time.
Speaking, Senator Francis Alimikhena, thanked members of the party for their resilience and promised that he would continue to do his best to justify the mandate given to him.
Other politicians, who spoke at the meeting are House of Representatives member, Peter Akpatason, Johnson Ughuma, the senatorial district’s party leader, Sunday Mayaki, former commissioners, Joseph Ugheoke, Lucky James and Mika Amanokhai.
They supported Oshiomhole’s views and urged the party faithful to keep faith with the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.
MEANWHILE, the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, charged APC leaders to withdraw their cases from court to enable the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a by-election in the 14 constituencies that have been without representation in the state House of Assembly.
In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Chris Nehikhare in Benin City, the party said Edo people recalled how the leadership of APC conspired to deny 14 constituencies representation in the state’s House of Assembly.
