Nigerian defender Bright Osayi-Samuel displayed guts and bravery as he defended his teammates from a pitch invader after Sunday’s Turkish Super Lig clash between his team Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor.
Fenerbahce defeated Trabzonspor 3-2 but were confronted by angry Trabzonspor fans who flocked onto the pitch.
Tensions started to rise in the 87th minute when objects were thrown onto the field after former Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi scored what was the winner for visiting side Fenerbahce.
At the end of the game, Fenerbahce’s players gathered in the centre circle to celebrate.
This got Trabzonspor supporters annoyed leading to a pitch invasion.
As more fans ran onto the pitch, there were violent scenes with security staff struggling to restore order.
Osayi-Samuel was forced to confront one of the pitch invaders who was advancing towards the centre circle where the Fenerbahce players assembled.
Footage showed the AFCON 2023 silver medal winner pursuing the fan before delivering a punch to the face, leaving the masked supporter flat on the turf.
He was eventually held back by security operatives from delivering more punches to the invader as Fenerbahce players were led out of the pitch.
Fenerbahce sit second in the Super Lig, two points behind leaders Galatasaray, and are 30 points clear of Trabzonspor in third.
Fenerbahce supporters after the match gave the Nigerian a heroic applause for showing bravery.
