Abuse among men is hardly given prominence, yet statistics have shown that a lot of men suffer from Abuse that has led to depression or a build up of emotions, hence, the movie, ‘My Mirror’ by Nollywood Filmmaker and producer, Jumoke Odetola.
At the premiere of the movie held recently in Lagos, Odetola said the movie is a dream come true. “The theme of the movie is on abuse in different forms. There is an abuse on men; our society has made men believe they cannot express their pains and so a lot of men suppress this feeling.
Hence there are two things that happen, either depression or a build up of anger and so when it gets to that limit, it is like a breaking point.”
She however noted that it is important for people to undergo therapy when they do not heal from the pain of the past.
The producer stressed that another kind of abuse reflected in the movie is from parents to children, unknowingly a lot of parents destroy the self-esteem of their children through the things they say and this has a diverse effect in the lives of these children, as they grow older.
“As filmmakers, we owe it as a point of duty to produce movies that puts us in a positive light. A lot of people have not been to the United States but Hollywood has sold a narrative which we all accept and so I think we have it as a point of responsibility to do same,” she added.
One of the cast in the movie, Seun Akindele said viewers should see moral lessons about family atmosphere in the movie, “for everyone who sees this movie, they should see some moral lessons that needs not be overlooked in a family atmosphere. It teaches individuals what to do or what to expect from your marital status. It’s a whole lot of lessons besides that”.
Celebrities present are the premiere includes Ayo Adesanya, Mr. Macaroni, Korede Bello, Rotimi Salami, Femi Adebayo, Jide Awobona, Gt Da Guitarman, Mide Martins, amongst others.
