The Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) Chartered has charged the newly inducted senior officers of the National Defence College (NDC) to adhere to and be guided by the institute’s code of professional management practice.

President and Chairman of Council, NIM, Dr. Christiana Atako, spoke during the induction ceremony and presentation of professional membership certificate of the institute to Officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, who have successfully undergone the specially designed Executive Training for Membership and Upgrade Programme (ETMUP).

She tasked them to be guided by the spirit and letters enshrined in the code of professional management practice of the institute, especially, when confronted with situations where they may have to make difficult choices or decisions.

She urged them to expose corrupt practices whenever they come to their knowledge and refuse to give undeserved favours to anyone.

While she advised them to engage in continuous self-development, competence building and benchmarking of best management practices; she also urged them to act within the limits of personal competence and authority, as well as dissociate themselves from personal interests, which could introduce non-professional influence in managerial decisions and actions.

Adhering to these, the NIM boss said, would not only make them imbibe and display the values of integrity, transparency, responsibility, accountability, equity, fairness, efficiency and effectiveness, which the institute preaches and practices, but would equally make them be in the forefront of the institute’s fight against corruption and other vices, which have been the bane of the nation’s development.

She equally urged the newly inducted senior officers to render selfless service to the Armed Forces and the nation, live above board and continue to contribute to the strategic transformation of the nation’s economy.

NDC Commandant, Rear Admiral Murtala Bashir, commended the institute for the strides it has been making over the years in bequeathing the right workforce and leaders to the nation through its numerous capacity-building initiatives across the country

He pointed out that the relationship between NDC and NIM is age-long and has been mutually beneficial to both organisations

He advised the newly inducted senior officers to take their membership of NIM seriously by using the opportunity provided through the NIM platform to develop their leadership skills.

During the programme, about 80 officers and men of the nation’s Armed Forces were trained, inducted and issued membership certificates of the institute.
