New Year: Let us work together for peace, unity, progress, Uzodimma urges Imo people

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has urged Imo people to work in synergy with his administration to achieve peace, unity and progress in 2023.

Uzodimma made the plea in his New Year message, promising that his administration would complete some road projects, while more would be built this year.
According to him, with the 2022 budget, in excess of N474 billion, signed into law, he would deliver to the satisfaction of the people.

Uzodimma said: “As we gloriously march into 2023, and with the 2023 Budget of Wealth Expansion signed into law, we are prepared to deliver quality governance through the fiscal year.

“We are committed to completion of all ongoing projects across the state, especially the Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia road and Orlu-Mgbee-Akokwa road.
“Having achieved these, despite contrived insecurity, which we have brought under control, I appeal to Imo people for a resolve to work together to ensure that peace, unity and progress shall be our goal, and that the interest and welfare of the state shall supersede our selfish interests.”

The governor noted that he is satisfied by Imo returnees for the festive season, as well as on the level of infrastructure his administration has put in place.

In his strategic plan of boosting the state’s economy this year, the governor assured of completion of the Owerri -Umuahia; the Orlu – Mgbee – Akokwa and the Oguta to Okporo Orlu roads, including many other infrastructure projects.

He listed two signature projects, which, he said, are dear in his heart, to include: Owerri-Orlu road and Owerri – Okigwe road, inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari last year.

Uzodimma, mentioned other notable achievements such as the upgrade of the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, to the status of Federal University Teaching Hospital for the Federal University of Technology, Owerri; Alvan Ikoku College of Education full takeover by the Federal Government; and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Navy for the dredging of Oguta Lake/Urashi River to the Atlantic Ocean.
