NEW Generation FC have emerged champions of the maiden Alhaji Fatai Ola Under-16 Football Championship by defeating Arrow Stars FC 1-0 in the final played at the Idi Araba High School, Mushin, Lagos.
The championship, a grassroots initiative, organised in commemoration of the 80th birthday of Alhaji Fatai Ola, under the auspices of Vice-Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Alhaji Fatai Oyewuwo, saw the winner going home with a trophy, gold medal and N20,000 while Arrow Stars FC got the silver medal and a sum of N10,000 for their efforts.
Speaking on the championship, the sponsor, Oyewuwo said, “I love football and when I see these young boys playing, I feel like identifying with them and I think we must encourage them further, particularly when I know that football is at its lowest ebb in Nigeria. We need to encourage the young ones to grow up and become good footballers.”
