Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has 198 suspected drug users in graveyards and nightclubs after a raid operation in Kano.

61 of the suspected illicit users, including 15 females were apprehended at the popular nightclub in the city where illicit substances freely exchange hands, NDLEA said.

Kano command’s spokesperson, Sadiq Mohammad Maigatari, in a statement, said the quantum of arrest was carried out during “operation Hana Maye”, recently launched by the state commander, Abubakar Idris, to combat the rising drug abuse and trafficking in the city.

Maigatari said the men of the narcotics agency successfully dismantled the hideout of drug addicts at the popular Dan Agundi Graveyard where 42 suspects were apprehended.

“The operation also dismantled drug joints in Sheka Graveyard and Sheka Obajana. These arrests demonstrate the command’s commitment to dismantling drug networks and eliminating drug trafficking hotspots in the state,” he said.

Maigatari said the command dislodged 21 drug joints during the operation, which serve as hubs for drug trafficking and consumption, posing a threat to the safety and well-being of the community.

He added that the command recovered various drugs such as Exol-5, rubber solution, “suck and die”, cannabis, and other dangerous substances.

While urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug abuse and trafficking to the appropriate authorities, the command restated its commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking in the state.
