The President of the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET), Dr. Catherine Atteng, has said no fewer than 3,000 special education teachers from across Nigeria will attend the organisation’s 35th Annual National Conference held in Edo State.

According to Atteng, the conference with the theme, “Professionalizing Special Needs Educational Services: The Need for Technological-Based Skills,” will begin on Monday, 3rd June 2024.

It will be held at Imaguero College, Benin City, Edo State.

“The conference aims to address the critical need for technological-based skills in special needs education, emphasising the importance of professionalising educational services to better cater to students with special needs across the country,” Atteng said.

“The Chief Host of the conference is His Excellency Governor Godwin Obaseki, the Executive Governor of Edo State. He has been doing a commendable job with special needs education in the state. He will be part of the discussion on how to raise the bar and address the need for technological-based skills in special education.”

The event, which is expected to attract special education administrators, policymakers, and other stakeholders, will be hosted by the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Edo State, Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe.

Professor Florence Banku Obi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, will deliver the keynote address.

The conference will feature a series of workshops, panel discussions, and interactive sessions designed to equip special education teachers with cutting-edge knowledge and practical skills.

Participants will have the opportunity to network with peers, share best practices, and explore new strategies to enhance the quality of education for students with special needs.

“With the increasing recognition of the importance of specialised educational services, this year’s conference is expected to be a significant milestone in the journey towards inclusive and technologically advanced education for all. The event promises to foster collaboration, inspire innovation, and drive progress in the field of special education,” Atteng noted.
