Ace singer, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo (popularly known as D’Banj), has advised African leaders to painstakingly market the content and creative industry as the next high foreign exchange earner.

He observed in an interview at the Afrozons Soundoff Dinner organised by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism that the robust development of the industry would turn the economic fortunes of African nations around.

The artiste said: “I used to tell people that growing up in Nigeria, crude oil was our biggest export, but today, content is the main crude. Just like crude oil, creativity is also a natural God-given resource. It depends on how you can pick it and refine it. We just need to refine ourselves and have the right platforms to showcase ourselves. We are very rich and wealthy creative people in Africa, but we need to be able to turn that wealth into the next generation, and if you look at the way Dubai is structured, there are so many lessons to learn from them.”

The Nigerian expressed delight that the Afrobeat genre of music had attained global acceptance.

He commended Dubai Tourism for assembling African musicians.
