Lookman voted Atalanta Player Of The Year

Ademola Lookman has been voted Atalanta Player Of The Year for the 2023/24 season after the Super Eagles attacker had his best-ever campaign as a footballer.

Atalanta confirmed Lookman as the winner of the top individual award on Thursday via a post on X with the Serie A club accompanying it with the video of his goals.

“Your Player of The Season 2023/24 is once again @Alookman_ Look… who won the @italianoptic #POTS AGAIN!,” Atalanta wrote.

“A superb campaign, goals, assists and hat-trick in the Europa League final. Huge congratulations, Ademola and thanks for a very special season.”

There is almost nothing else to say about Lookman who many have touted to be among the leading candidates for the 2024 African player of the year award.

Lookman represents courage and perseverance as one of the journeymen in Europe who eventually found a home in Bergamo, Italy.

He started his career at Charlton Athletic before subsequent sojourns at Everton, RB Leipzig from where he went on loan to Fulham and Leicester City.

The Nigerian international settled down pretty quickly at Atalanta in his first season and was even much more equipped for the second.

The 26-year-old netted 15 goals in the 2022/23 campaign and last season, he hit the net 17 times in 45 appearances for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

Lookman also became the third Nigerian player to score in a Europa League or UEFA Cup final, bagging a hat-trick in Atalanta’s 3-0 bashing of Bayer Leverkusen.

His glorious hat-trick gave Atalanta their very first European trophy and only the second honour in their history.

Meanwhile, the forward could leave Atalanta before the end of the ongoing summer transfer window, according to media reports.

Reports have suggested that three Premier League giants, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United are serious about signing Lookman.

According to reports, the three English clubs are also ready to pay €60 million for him as demanded by Atalanta.
