Former Super Eagles’ Coach, Adegboye Onigbinde, who on Wednesday described schools sports as the path to lasting sports’ culture for the nation, has thanked Ibadan-based Lead City University for its efforts in supporting Nigerian sportsmen and women.

The FIFA/CAF advisor, who was on facilities tour to the privately owned varsity yesterday, expressed satisfaction on the sport’s facilities put in place by the school, saying the investment has shown how serious the University takes sports development.

Onigbinde, who was taken round the school by Prof. Jide Oweye, the Chairman Governing Council of Lead City University, inspected the standard astroturf pitch, which has two 1,000 sitting terrace, indoor sports hall with 50 meters swimming pool and gym facilities, advised the school to prioritize its maintenance.

He applauded the gesture of the school towards sports men and women, many of who are on scholarship at the university courtesy of the institution.

“What I have seen here is wholesome and quite commendable… these facilities has shown the high level at which the school wants to develop both physical and intellectual capacities of its students.

“Only a functional school sport programme can guarantee a better future for the country. Our government only pays lip service to school sports’ development these days and that is why we must appreciate a private initiative such as this one,” the Modakeke chief noted.
