Lawyer asks court to relocate NNPC gas valve plant

NNPC

A lawyer, Mr. Oluwole Kehinde has asked a Federal High Court, Abeokuta, Ogun State to order the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Gas Marketing Limited to relocate its gas valve plant completely away from the residential area where it is presently located.

The plaintiff is also asking for an order of the court to reinstate, restore and remediate the contaminated environment at his residence at No 2, Joseph Daramola Avenue, Ago Igbala Area, Ibafo, Ogun State, which environment was contaminated by the natural gas operations of the NNPC.

The lawyer in the suit marked FHC/AB/CS/7/24 is praying to the court for a provision of adequate safety facilities to preserve his residence and
properties from damage in the event of any accident from the NNPC gas station.

The plaintiff in his statement of claim dated January 23, 2024 is praying to the court for an order of injunction, restraining the defendant from further carrying on its gas operations in the community.

In his 37-paragraph affidavit, Kehinde claimed that the natural gas operations carried out by the defendant have led to the contamination and impairment of their environment, including his residence at No.2, Joseph Daramola Avenue, Ago Igbala Area, Ibafo, Ogun State.

He, therefore, demanded N1 billion compensation for the nuisance arising from the operations of the defendant’s valve gas station, which is negatively affecting the plaintiff, his family members, and property in the environment and community where the said defendant’s valve gas station is located.
