LASU VC, NUJ, ACSPN, others pay tributes to Oso

The Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello; Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN) and other media professionals, yesterday, honoured the late communication scholar, Prof. Lai Oso.

The VC, who was represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Boyo Adenike, described Oso as a fine philosopher of education and a brilliant man who gave his service to the university.

She said: “Everyone mattered to him. He might not even realise how he has impacted people. He lived an exemplary life.

“His life emphasised the value of friendship and the necessity of networking. Death is inevitable and it is in a moment like this that we remind ourselves that we are mortal.”


Chairman, Lagos State NUJ, Adeleye Ajayi, said Oso was a colossus, adding: “He was my kinsman and we attended the same secondary school. We are going to miss him but his legacies live forever.”

Dare Ogunyombo, who spoke on behalf of ACSPN, said Oso demonstrated the right kind of leadership.

“He was down to earth and ensured our conference hold on time,” he said.

Group Operations Manager, Channels TV, Kingsley Urantha, who represented the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), John Momoh, said Oso’s impact in the world of Mass Communication would endure forever.

“He nurtured the minds of aspiring journalists. His legacies will resonate,” he said.

Similarly, Dean, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies of the institution, Prof. Sunday Alawode, described Oso as teacher of teachers and leader of leaders.

Professor of Conflict Sensitive Journalism at LASU, Jide Jimoh and Professor of Public Relations and Advertising Rotimi Olatunji also eulogized the deceased.
