Sets up committee over flooding, traffic congestion in Ikoyi

Lagos State House of Assembly, yesterday, received a letter from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu nominating Adewuyi Moshood Adewale for the position of Auditor-General of the State. The letter was read by Clerk of the House, Olalekan Onafeko, during the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.

In the letter, Sanwo-Olu said the nomination was in line with the dictates of the constitution, urging the House to screen and confirm the nominee.

Meanwhile, the House has set up an ad-hoc committee to look into the flooding and traffic congestion around Park View Estate in Ikoyi, due to on-going land reclamation exercise.

A member of the House, Gbolahan Yishawu, who represents Eti-Osa Constituency II and chairman of the committee, raised the issue under ‘Matters of Urgent Public Importance.’
Yishawu said his constituents complained that vehicular traffic in and out of the Park View Estate had become a major challenge.

, said: “I visited the estate and observed that another recent land reclamation has occurred at the Banana Island Estate side of the Lagos Lagoon, which has further narrowed the storm water buffer zone in the area and a building under construction collapsed around the reclamation a few months ago.

“Also, an online search revealed that the ongoing land reclamation in Park View Estate is already being advertised for sale to the public.”He, therefore, sought the guidance of the Speaker and the House on how to handle the situation.

In their contributions, members of the House proposed a committee to further investigate the complaint. However, a protest was staged in the front of Governor’s House by Lagos Island residents, Jankara market traders and others over flooding that had restricted all their activities.
