Sen. Shuaib Salisu (Ogun Central), has urged the Federal Government to invest more in agriculture to boost food security in the country.

Salisu gave the charge at sideline of the Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates’ Association (UNIFEMGA) 2024 National Reunion Conference in Ile-Ife OAU on Saturday.

The senator who was the guest speaker at the occasion said there was a need to review economy policies to increase the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) through agriculture.

“If the Federal Government invests hugely on agriculture, there’ll be food sufficiency in the nation.

“Agriculture as the economic bedrock of a serious nation, would solve the present economy challenges facing the country,” he stated.

According to him, Nigeria has enough resources to navigate its current economic challenges.

The senator noted that the palliative given to people recently can only solve their economic challenges temporarily, stressing the need to evolve long term solutions.

“I have no doubt as a nation, that one day everything will normalised,” he stated.

He advised youths to go into farming as an alternative enterprise to increase food production.
