The command added that it also recovered 35 vehicles of different makes and large quantities of assorted calibre of arms and ammunition within the period under review

The Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Hussaini, disclosed this yesterday while playing host to the National President of Police Officers Wives Association of Nigeria (POWA), Hajia Hajara Usman Alkali Baba, who was on a two-day working visit to the state

He reiterated the command’s commitment to work with other relevant stakeholders in ridding the state of all forms of crime and criminality.

Hussaini further appreciated support from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba and the state Governor, Hope Uzodimma, which according to him, “gave the officers and men the courage and zeal to fight against terror in the state.”

He said: “When I assumed duty as the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command on August 11, 2021, on my arrival, I met a command faced with a lot of security challenges, which include amongst others; the activities of organised local terrorist groups, like the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militia wing christened, ‘Eastern Security Network (ESN)’ among others.

“Thus a lot of strategies were put in place to combat the various terror groups and consequently, the decimation of their Camps in the state. To this end, the state today is enjoying relative peace and tranquillity. However, the command is not relenting in its determined efforts to sustain the already improved security situation in the state.

“Presently, we are working in synergy with other security agencies, traditional rulers, town union President-Generals, stakeholders, youth leaders, religious leaders, Hunters Association, vigilante groups and Neighbourhoods Watch Associations as well as placing emphasis on community policing, which has assisted the command greatly in combating violent crimes.”
