Igbinedion varsity partners Hokkaido University on research, devt 

Environmental experts from Hokkaido University Japan, yesterday, signed an expression of interest to work with researchers in Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), Edo State, to improve on Research and Development (R&D), particularly in advancing knowledge in toxicology, environmental health and safety.

Prof. Shota Nakayama, who is a renowned Ecotoxicologist and Prof. Mayumi Ishizuka, an accomplished toxicologist and Ecotoxicologist, whose research focuses on xenobiotic metabolisms, and Dr. Emmanuel Ogbomida from Hokkaido University Japan pledged to partner researchers in IOU.


Speaking during the epoch-making ceremony, Vice Chancellor of IUO, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, said the partnership between the two institutions is to foster international collaborations and knowledge exchange, particularly in regions where environmental challenges hold paramount significance.

Describing the collaboration as apt and an academic interface, which is part of IUO’s industry and academia linkage, Ezemonye said Igbinedion University is committed to championing academic excellence; hence, it is partnering renowned universities both nationally and internationally to achieve development of staff and students.

The vice-chancellor said the visit by the Japanese experts is among other efforts aimed at establishing interest in partnership with Igbinedion University in the area of research.

He said: “Prof. Nakayama’s commitment to interdisciplinary research is evident in his incorporation of the “One Health” concept, wherein he explores the intricate interactions between human activities, environmental health and the well-being of diverse species.”
