HEDA tasks FG on revitalisation of refineries before fuel subsidy removal

Human Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre) has appealed to the Federal Government to revamp the refineries and tackle corruption in the sector before removing fuel subsidy.

Its chairman, Olanrewaju Suraju, in a statement, yesterday, noted that government’s failure to revive the facilities has resulted in over-reliance on imported fuel and contributed to high cost of the product.

HEDA claimed that the $800 million loan secured from the World Bank is not a solution, but a “ploy to further plunge the country into debt and provide opportunities to divert public funds under the guise of palliatives.”

The organisation, therefore, call on government to implement policies that promote transparency and accountability. It also sued for probe of Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) allocations from 1999 till date.
