Chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Kolade Alabi David, has disclosed a plan to create subsidised food markets, even as he assured residents of his administration’s commitment to improving their standards of living.
David spoke at the Bariga Intervention Programme, where 1,000 residents received N20,000 each, in an effort to cushion the ongoing economic crisis.
He explained that his administration would intervene further by creating subsidised food markets across the eight wards in the LCDA, where food would be sold to residents at a subsidised rate.
He said: “There would be a Health Intervention Scheme for 100 pregnant women in Bariga. We are going to pay for their deliveries. A committee will select the 100 women. We also have those that registered at our health centres; they would be considered as well. The committee members will roll out the modalities.
“We also have, in the pipeline, a health programme, tagged ‘Ilera Bariga’, for 1,000 people. They will be given a card to visit any hospital for free. We are going to commence a daily food intervention across Bariga. Local vendors will be selected; they will be mobilised to cater for 1,000 people daily.”
Speaking on education, the chairman said: “We are planning an intervention in our 30 primary schools across Bariga. We are going to provide exercise books to indigent students to support their parents.”
We are going to collapse Ajidagan Primary School and other schools to meet the standard expected of a modern school.”
