Group takes cleanup exercise, sensitisation to Lagos communities

The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) has called for a cleaner environment to curb the epidemic.

The foundation made the call yesterday when it took an environmental campaign to Mushin, Lagos. The exercise is part of Clean Our World (COW) project organised by the foundation in partnership with the Oando Foundation and Sumitomo Chemical.


Head, Environmental Education, NCF, Abidemi Balogun told The Guardian, that the group was in the area to sensitise the community on how to properly manage their waste, building on the success story of the first phase and now having additional schools joining the second phase.

Balogun further stated that the people need to be sensitised on how to manage their waste properly and they need to also know that a clean environment is very important to their wellbeing. “Also, the essence of coming to the community is because we need the children to be healthy.”

Also speaking zonal parent forum chairman, Mushin chapter, Alhaji Ndana Muhammed, said: “Most of the people living in this area are fond of dumping refuse in the gutter, but with the help of the foundation we are able to sensitise the people and to let them know that Lagos State government wants the people to stop the habit of dumping their waste in the gutter”


“This also serves as an eye-opener for most of the people living on the street that they need to be making their environment very clean at all times and we also appreciate the efforts of Oando Foundation for coming to our community.”

Head Teachers, Ishaga Close Primary School Mushin, Herbert Oluwatoyin thanked the foundation for sanitising the environment. “This is going to help prevent the children from contracting malaria.”

Also, Head Teacher, Islamic Model Primary School, Idi-Araba, Mushin, Akinbami Hanifat Folashade, said: “You know health is wealth and it is good to eradicate diseases in the community and that is why we are here with the pupils to clean our environment.”
