Group seeks increase in budgetary allocations for Northeast

The Northeast chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has enjoined the Federal Government to devote more percentage of its annual budgetary allocations to the region to tackle challenges bedeviling the zone.

Citing insecurity, which they agreed has enveloped the entire states of the region and the bad road network within the zone, scaling up budgetary allocation for the area, the group said, would go a long way in accelerating growth in the Northeast.

The group in a communique made available to The Guardian, said the budgetary allocation for the entire Northeast is grossly inadequate considering the security issues and the poor road network within the zone.

The body listed Numan-Jalingo, Gombe-Yola, Gombe-Biu, Maiduguri-Kano, Gombe-Bauchi among the numerous roads in the zone that need urgent intervention, urging government to push the contractors charged with fixing them for speedy and timely completion.

In the communique signed by the Committee Chairman, Dr. Joseph Gimba and the Secretary, Garba Ubale, the group demanded for the immediate inclusion of its members from the zone as board members of the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
