Group holds stakeholders’ conference, tasks agencies on economic growth

Stakeholders in the non-oil sector have been urged to double down on efforts to promote innovative policies targeted at increasing the sector’s contribution to economic growth.

The Chairman of the Commerce and Industry Correspondents Association of Nigeria, Abuja chapter Ifeanyi Onuba, made the call at the weekend while addressing journalists in preparation for its forthcoming stakeholders’ conference to be held in Abuja.

He said the call has become necessary as the country is in dire need of local and foreign investments to reduce undue pressure on foreign earnings.

Onuba said the conference, which is scheduled for this Wednesday, has as its theme, ‘The role of the non-oil sector towards economic diversification, GDP growth’.

He assured that the association would continue to support government agencies ready to create policies and initiatives aimed at attracting investors or expanding the export of Nigeria’s products targeted at the untapped global market.

The conference is expected to welcome presentations from the Nigeria Export Promotion Council on the sub-theme ‘Export for Survival: Exploring Nigeria’s New Gateway to Generating FDIs, Economic Growth’, while the Standards Organisation of Nigeria will speak on ‘The role of standardisation in building a resilient non-oil sector’.
