Ghana friendly opportunity for us to show the level we are – Ademola Lookman

Ademola Lookman celebrates after scoring the lone goal against Angola

Ademola Lookman has said that the Super Eagles are looking forward to Friday’s international friendly against Ghana in Morocco because it is an opportunity for them to show the level they are.

Lookman has scored nine goals and assisted three in 29 appearances for Atalanta this season and he also performed very well at the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) which took place in Ivory Coast.

The 26-year-old who bagged three goals and an assist in seven games at AFCON 2023 was one of the early arrivals in Morocco for the friendlies against Ghana and Mali and spoke with the Super Eagles media officer, Babafemi Raji.

After another good session at the Super Eagles’ camp in Marrakech, Morocco, Lookman said: “I think, yeah, we are getting prepared for the game, obviously, on Friday, so, yeah, we are looking forward to it.”

With the team assembling again after a wonderful AFCON, the attacking sensation was asked how the players reflected on the outcome, what it feels like to be back again and what they are talking about in general.

“Yeah, obviously, many good things happened at the AFCON we still have the same bunch of players who are all happy to be together once again and obviously, some new faces as well in the squad,” said Lookman.

“So, we are really happy to be back with the team once again for the two friendly matches against both Ghana and Mali.”

On what Nigerians should expect from the friendly game against Ghana on Friday, Lookman said: “It is an opportunity for us to once again show the level that we are.

“I mean the level that we have shown, especially talking about the AFCON and the level that is always expected of us.

“So, yeah, we are definitely looking forward to the match against Ghana on Friday,” concluded the winger.

The Super Eagles who came second at the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) which took place in Ivory Coast will take on the Black Stars of Ghana before facing Les Aigles of Mali on Tuesday, March 26.

Nigeria will go all out to exact vengeance on Ghana because when they met in March 2022 in a two-legged play-off for a place at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the Black Stars won on the away-goal rule after a 1-1 aggregate.
