FUOYE appoints Opoola as deputy Vice-Chancellor

Tajudeen Opoola

A professor of applied linguistics, Tajudeen Opoola, has been appointed as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE). Until his appointment, Prof. Opoola was the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Chairman of the Ceremonies Committee of the university.

The erudite scholar was born in Oyo State and had his elementary education at Agboye Baptist Primary School and Ansar-Ud-Deen Secondary Modern School. He attended Ladigbolu Grammar School, Oyo, for his secondary education.

In furtherance of his education, he attended and graduated from the defunct Oyo State College of Education, Ilesha, Lanlate Campus for his Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) and University of Calabar, Cross River State for his B.A. (Hons) in Linguistics in 1989, M.A. degree in Languages in 1994 and PhD Applied Linguistics in 2000. Opoola, a teacher of note, has taught at all levels of education in Nigeria.

At the tertiary level, Opoola started his lecturing career in 1991 at the Federal College of Education, Obudu, Cross River State and in 2000 transferred his services to the Federal College of Education (Special) Oyo.

As Deputy Provost, Opoola was the Chairman of the University of Ibadan/FCE (Special) Regular Degree Programme, as well as the Lagos State University degree programme of the college.

Opoola is a leading resource person to many national educational supervisory agencies in the country, among which are the chairman of the Faculty of Arts Academic Board.

He has published over 50 articles in reputable journals indexed in Scopus, MLA and SCImago, edited 10 books, singly, and authored six books on several topics in languages and linguistic studies.
