Freee recycle commits to environmental sustainability, circular economy

To combat climate change, Freee Recycle, has reiterated its commitment to promote environmental sustainability, by diverting waste from landfills and reducing environmental footprint.

Speaking at the launch of the innovative Eco-friendly Flip Flops made from recycled tyres, Managing Director, Mrs Ifedolapo Runsewe, stating that the firm continues to push the boundaries of green solutions, said that they have recycled over 250,000 tires, which has resulted in curbing over 1000 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and reduction of malaria mortality.


She noted that by converting recycled waste tires into innovative, high quality products, they not only contribute to 12 of the Sustainable Development Goals SDG), but also promote responsible consumption, production and drive economic growth in Nigeria.

Today marks a significant milestone in our journey with the new, Freee flip flops we are not just offering exceptional quality. We are making a statement of our wavering dedication to environmental responsibility.

Littered tyres can cause blocked drainage, which can be breeding ground for mosquitoes. That would also mean a spread of malaria parasites that has a high mortality rate in Nigeria,” she said.

According to her tyres became their preferred recycle item due to its versatility as its three main content can be repurposed and reused in creating other products.

Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy to the Governor of Lagos State, Titilope Oshodi, said that the government is driving the ideals of a circular economy as an approach to combat climate change over a period of four to five years in order to achieve its zero carbon emissions goals by 2050.

“If we’re able to strategise and use that complexity within the market, we can achieve a 10 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emission whilst we’re also ensuring that we establish 10,000 indirect jobs over a period of five years, and we do it in about 50,000,” she said.

Managing Director Sage Grey Finance Limited, Temitope Runsewe, on their partnership with Freee, said the firm is an innovative, impact driven, female led and female owned business.
