Fire guts oil depot in Lagos

Lagos fire and rescue service

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said there was a fire outbreak at the new NNPC Terminal, formerly OVH, Marine Beach, Apapa.

The Director/CEO, Lagos State Fire Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the fire resulted from a spillage of petroleum products within the perimeter of the tank farm as concerted efforts with various emergency responders within the oil and gas industry to contain the situation.

She, however, assured that the emergency operations are under control from escalating further.

Spokesperson of the fire service, Amodu Shakiru, told The Guardian that the emergency call came in at 11:27 am.

He mentioned that Iganmu and Ajegunle fire stations were there to curb the fire from escalating immediately after the call.

Meanwhile, the Corporate Communications Officer, NNPCL, Olufemi Soneye, disclosed to The Guardian that the fire outbreak was not at the NNPC depot but at a pipeline at HOGL Energy Limited (formerly Honeywell Oil and Gas limited).
