Fear

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever,” (Psalms 111:10).
Fear can be holy (Godly) or unholy. Searching the scriptures gives us the understanding of Godly fear. “Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; if thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God,” (Proverbs 2:3-5).

Hatred of evil is described as the fear of God. When you fear God, you abhor wickedness. You shun arrogance and pride. You will be in peace with all men. Godly fear is wisdom. “And unto man he said, behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding,” (Job 28:28). The fear of God is a treasure to all saints. It is well with you when you have little, but fear the Lord, than those who have great treasure without the fear of God, because they invite great trouble.

When the fear of God is your treasure, wisdom and knowledge shall be your stability, and the strength of your salvation. Godly fear is the fountain of life. It helps one to depart from the traps of death. It is a commandment of God. “Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him (Deuteronomy 13:4).

We are the seeds of Abraham, it is mandatory we glorify God at all times. Children of God must not engage in idolatry. Idolaters glorify the devil. Seek help from Jesus Christ whenever you have problems, not from the kingdom of darkness. Keeping God’s commandments is a whole duty of man. “Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king,” (1 Peter 2:17). Fearing God is a characteristic of the saints. God opens a book of remembrance and answers the prayers of those who fear and obey him. The fear of God is accompanied with joy and satisfaction. God should be served with fear.

The opposite of Godly fear is the unholy fear, which is a characteristic of the unrighteous or the wicked. If you do not fear God, you will surely fear the devil who will scare and torment you. When you lack the fear of God, you will disobey all his commandments. “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake, which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” (Revelation 21:8). An unholy fear leads to guilty conscience.

According to Genesis 3:8, Adam and Eve heard the voice of God, while He walked in the garden. They had to hide themselves from God’s presence because they had committed sin, and were naked. The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are as bold as a lion. Flee from every form of wickedness, so that, the devil will not rob you of your peace.

Fearfulness and trembling come upon those who are not on the Lord’s side. They are overwhelmed by horror. Saints are delivered from unholy fear. “But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil” (Proverbs 1:33). Jesus will grant you rest from your sorrow and your fear. If you are serving under any bondage, the Lord will deliver you, only when you give your life to Him, and forsake your sins.

Trusting in God is a preservative from unholy fear. “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalms 27:1). In every life situation, fear not, for God is in control.
