Expert charges business analysts on new skills

An experienced and certified business analyst, Esther Folorunso has urged that business analysts must continuously update their skills to stay relevant in a rapidly changing technological landscape.

She said due to the ever-increasing role of technology in business, the rise of automation and its impact on all business activities, there was a call for business analysts in every organisation to spearhead the change while being flexible with the changing business environment.

Folorunso said this would include developing expertise in new technologies relevant to their industry, honing their soft skills like communication, collaboration and critical thinking as well as embracing a growth mindset and being open to new ways of working.

Folorunso, who is currently working in the United States (US) Higher Education Industry, serves on the Board of the International Institute of Business Analyst, Tampa Bay Florida Chapter, said automation would undoubtedly change the way business analysts work.

She said by embracing technology and focusing on evolving skills, business analysts could ensure they remained valuable assets in the digital age.

According to her, they can become the bridge between the ever-evolving technological landscape and the core business needs of organisations.

The expert stressed that the technical part of business analysis safely empowers business analysts to be valuable partners in the digital transformation business.

She further explained that business analysis is not simply a “tech” role but undeniably requires a strong tech foundation in today’s world by understanding technology’s role in business, translating needs into technical requirements and collaborating effectively with Information Technology (IT) professionals to empower them to be strategic partners in driving digital transformation.

She said: “The future of business analysis is bright, but it demands adaptability and a commitment to lifelong learning. As technology reshapes the business landscape, business analysts who embrace emerging trends, upskill in relevant areas and focus on strategic analysis and user experience design will remain invaluable assets. They will continue bridging the gap between business and technology, ensuring organisations leverage technology effectively to achieve their strategic goals.”
