The crisis rocking Enugu State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) took another dimension, yesterday, as the state executive committee announced expulsion of former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, and former governor of the state, Sullivan Chime.
Also expelled are former Speaker, state Assembly, Eugene Odo, and Director General, Voice of Nigeria (VON), Osita Okechukwu. But while the party suspended the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema, from the party, his Personal Assistant, Flavour Eze, was expelled from the party.
The state executive committee of the party, which met at its zonal Secretariat in Enugu, accused affected members of anti-party activities, stressing that the committee, which was set up to investigate them had found them guilty as charged.
The state Secretary of APC, Robert Ngwu, who read the decision of the State Executive Council (SEC), noted that recommendations of the fact-finding and disciplinary committee was adopted by SEC. He further announced the expulsion of Joe Mammel and Maduka Arum from the party.
They were accused of working against the interest of the party, and openly supported other political parties during the just concluded elections. Odoh, however, described the development as unfortunate, stressing that it showed how bad things had gone in the party.
Stressing that the Ugochukwu Agballah led state executive lacked power to suspend, not to talk about expel, he challenged Agballah to show his voter and membership card of the party.
Odoh stated that having failed in their bid to enrich themselves with the elections, the executive had resorted to throwing punches. Also, Flavour Eze, who had earlier expressed fears about the move to suspend leaders, accused Agballah of using his office to create divisions in the party.
He insisted that the leaders worked for the party, stressing, however, that Agballah failed to vote for the governorship candidate of the APC on the March 18 election, and wondered who else could have voted for the candidate when the state chairman of the party betrayed the party’s mandate.
