Driver flees as three commuters die in Osun auto crash

Three commuters, yesterday, lost their lives in an auto crash involving a truck and a car along Osogbo-Ikirun road in Osun State.

The victims were travelling in a car heading towards Ikirun, the same direction as the truck.

An eyewitness said a passenger survived the crash and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

According to the witness, the car in which the deceased were travelling was completely damaged in the incident, which occurred at about 8:25 p.m. on Tuesday.

It was gathered that immediately after the accident, the truck driver fled to escape the wrath of the people near the scene.

Confirming the incident, yesterday, the spokesperson for the Osun State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kehinde Adeleke, said operatives who visited the scene reported that the crash was caused by reckless driving.

She said: “A fatal accident occurred at about 8:25 p.m., on February 27, along Ikirun-Osogbo Expressway. The accident involved a Lexus 350 car and an unregistered trailer. The accident claimed three lives on the spot.

“According to an eyewitness, the accident was a result of reckless driving and over-speeding by the driver of the said trailer, who took to his heel immediately after the crash. The victims have been taken to a yet-to-be-identified morgue.”
