Dep gov warns Nigerians against cursing nation’s leaders

Obafemi Hamzat, Lagos State deputy governor

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Kadri Hamzat, has warned against cursing leaders, but to pray that they succeed as well as suggest solutions to identified problems and challenges in the society.

Speaking, yesterday at the 2024 Armed forces Remembrance Day dedicated Jumat service, Hamzat said that Nigerians, especially the youths should know that when leaders fail, it will negatively affect the populace.

“When we curse our leaders, if God answers the prayers, the people will suffer the consequences,” Hamzat said.

He added that the country must move from a nation of just complaining and criticising for criticising sake to suggesting solutions to issues.

The deputy governor further said that he was not saying that the people should not criticise government, but it must be constructive criticism.

He said that it is important that the citizens continue to pray that God guild the leaders right, and bless the country.

The deputy governor implored parents to take special interest in the activities their children engage in and places they go in order to protect them from drug abuse.

He said this is important because a lot of children are taking to drugs, which is not healthy for the society.

“We must protect our children from drugs, so parents should be vigilant. It is everywhere now.”

He promised more support for the families of fallen heroes enjoining Nigerians to look after families of fallen heroes in their neighbourhood.

He said many of the fallen heroes died for many Nigerians to live so their sacrifice should be commended and appreciated.

On his part, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode, said that the state government is committed to supporting families of fallen heroes, stating that the state government deliberately include families of fallen in state empowerment programmes.

He also said that parents should constantly pray that God protect their children as well as have the grace to train children aright.
