CAC targets registration of 10 million small businesses

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) is eyeing the registration of no less than 10 million small and medium enterprises (SMEs) before the end of the year.

The feat, if met, would help the commission to break the jinx of low yearly registration. In a quick move to achieve the target, the commission has equally launched the registration of two million SMEs with Money Point (a microfinance bank) in Abuja.

Speaking on the development, the CAC Registrar-General, Hussain Ishaq Magaji, said: “CAC is taking these bold steps to ensure that SMEs in Nigeria take their rightful place, especially in job creation and economic empowerment.” He explained that the successful move has become one of his major achievements since assuming office last March.

“We are now putting in place an active call centre to make it easier for stakeholders to officially transact and connect with us,” he said. He explained that when he assumed office, he inherited several challenges such as indiscriminate postings, a backlog of staff promotions as well as accumulated staff claims, which he resolved without much delay.

He stressed: “Having put in place a lot of innovations and initiatives with support from staff and management, all the challenges have become my major achievements in the last 100 days in office”.
